Well done as always, Bill. After 2 years of Circus Bryz, Emery is truly a breath of fresh air!
Re Gagne: Unless Talbot is skating on the 4th line, Im not sure where Gagne fits in the lineup as I can't see him ina 4th line energy role.

Great blog on Emery. I am really rooting for him to succeed not just as a rabid flyers fan but for Ray as a person. I have a feeling that he will put up numbers close to what he did last year (presuming our D stays healthy).

Hagg's play is encouraging. Hopefully he can sort out the inconsistency that caused his drop to round 2 and turn out to be a steal for the Flyers.

Emery's story is one that makes it hard for me to root against him, regardless of uniform. He's a guy that will fight to the last breath, and that is always something that strikes a chord with me.

I do have concerns about him and Mason both being able to play as well as they did last year(in Mason's case, as well as he did as a Flyer) and do hope that they succeed.

I think that's exactly what's expected.

Top 2 lines - some order of Giroux, Jake, Hartnell, Schenn, Simmonds Lecavalier
3rd line - Gagne, Couturier, Read
4th line - Talbot, Hal, Rinaldo
Extra - Rosehill

I think Talbot's on the 4th line anyway. If Laughton makes the team, he probably occupies Gagne's spot.

Not sure how Talbot feel's about 4th line minutes but thats a solid 4th line.. Think Laughton only makes the team if we trade some forward(s) away for defense

Well, Talbot's also going to get top PK time, and can easily slide up to the 3rd line if (read: when) there's an injury.

I'm pretty sure Talbot has spent most of his time in Philadelphia as a fourth line player. Plus, I don't think his feelings really matter, he's shown himself to
be a team player who would play wherever needed.

For a team close to the cap with an excess of defensemen, I don't see the
Flyers trading any forwards.

The only way I see a forward getting traded would be pairing him with a defenseman for a defensive upgrade, and then either using Laughton or calling up McGinn/Akeson/etc.

Certainly plausible, but I think its more likely that once Mez shows he can play in the preseason, he will be traded to someone who is either thin on D or has just lost a dman to an injury. They will then sign Gagne, and that will pretty much be it.

Great read, Bill!

I've always liked Emery - even when he was a problem child in Ottawa. Reminded me a lot of Hextall back in the day - a fiery, brash, competitor (albeit with serious off-ice issues). Glad to have him back in Philly and I'm looking (hoping) for him to take the reins in the crease.

Now we just need the rest of the team to step up their defensive game.

Talbot can play on the 3rd or 4th line. He will probably be the first guy moved up when the top 9 suffer an injury.

The Flyers usually have at least 1 forward injured so theres a good chance Talbot will end up playing in the top 9 for a lot of the season anyway.

I suspect that on day 1, after Pronger is LTIR'd, is when the Gagne and Manning signings will be announced. It's looking less and less likely that they're going to be able to get rid of a big-$ contract this late in the summer -- Meszaros is probably here to stay for the time being.

I still think that they will have to send a pick w/ mez to get him outta here unless he proves he can play. I'd rather have hainsey for a mil than mez at this point...not so much for the flyers, but in general...

I love stories like Emery's. Guy goes from impossible to root for at a young age to darn near impossible to root against currently. He's fought hard to get where he's at both physically and mentally.

I'd like to see Gagne brought back in a 3rd line role if the salary cap allows it in the end. If not, I look forward to seeing someone like McGinn or a Raffl-type trying to claim the job in camp.

I have very high hopes for Hagg. Not unrealistic expectations, just high hopes. I hope to see him progress a little bit each season and in 3-5 years hopefully he'll be donning the orange and black.

I don't see how Pronger and the LTIR situation would hold up signing Manning.

I can't think of any teams off the top of my head that would be in a position to bite on Mez even with an enticement pick thrown in. Maybe there was an outside chance of it happening in June/July, but September? An even harder sell.

I like Emery. I was really happy to have him the first time. The guy is a competitor!

I love the video of him fighting the Sabres goalie from a few years back. When he was done with the goalie Peters from the Sabres jumped Emery. Emery fought a known enforcer with all of his goalie gear on and smiled and laughed the whole time. If that does not make him a true "Flyers" type of player than I do not know what does.

I think it will be a mid-season move, when a team loses a top-4. Although, chances are that team will be the Flyers.

Love that. Love it even more that Sabres fans actually like that fight, despite the fact that Ottawa owned them. Riley Cote > Andrew Peters.

The top 10 reasons, I can't wait for the NHL season to start:

10. The Phillies suck

9. The Eagles are probably gonna suck too!

8. All these warm, sunny days are getting on my nerves

7. Nothing goes better with beer than hockey

6. Tourist season at the shore will be over and I can go on the island again

5. I can finally stop watching game 7 against Boston in 2010 over and over again!

4. Nothing goes better with scotch than hockey

3. Now that I've lost weight, I can once again fit into my old Tim Kerr jersey

2. I can go back to obsessing over trades that will never happen

and the #1 reason why I can't wait for the NHL season to start....

1. I'll finally have a good reason to NOT have to watch TV with my wife!!

But once the season starts, are you still gonna have a reason to keep making Top 10 lists?

That Sabres goalie, if I'm not mistaken, is none other than the beloved Marty Biron.
